Author Guidelines | International Journal of Dental Materials

Authors interested in submitting to the International Journal of Dental Materials should read and follow the Author Guidelines carefully to ensure a rapid and efficient review process. The editorial office reserves the right to return manuscripts that are not prepared according to these instructions.

Authors can submit their manuscripts and figures via the online submission and editorial system. Using this online system, authors may submit manuscripts and track their progress through the system to publication.

Author Guidelines:

The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor):-

The article must be sent in MS Office word document only.
Use Times New Roman font, font size should be 12.
Use double spacing throughout.
The article should contain a title page, abstract page and article page.
The title page, article page and figures should be uploaded separately to the journal's submission database.
Page numbers must be given consecutively, beginning with the title page.
The text of original articles should be divided into sections with the following headings:
Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, References, Tables and Figure legends.
Case reports should include:-
Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Case report, Discussion, Reference, Tables and Legends in that order.

Authors should sign a copyright form stating that the article is an original work, has not been published before and is not being considered for publication elsewhere in its final form either in printed or electronic form.

Title Page:

The title page should include:

Type of manuscript (e.g. Original article, Case Report).
The title of the article - not more than 50 characters
The name by which each author is known (Last name, First name and initials of middle name), with his or her highest academic degree(s) and institutional affiliation.
The name of the department(s) and institution(s) to which the work should be attributed.
The name, address, phone number, and e-mail address of the corresponding author.
Acknowledgement, if any.

Abstract Page:

The second page should carry the full title of the manuscript and an abstract (of no more than 150 – 200 words for brief reports and 250 - 300 words for original articles and other article types). State the background, aims, materials and methods, statistical analysis used, results, and conclusions. At least 3 to 8 keywords must be provided below the abstract. Do not include references in the abstract.

Article structure:

Subdivision - numbered sections:-

Divide the article into clearly defined and numbered sections (1, 2, 3,.....).
Subsections should be numbered 1.1 (then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, ...), 1.2, etc.
The abstract is not included in section numbering.
Any subsection may be given a brief heading.
Each heading should appear on its own separate line.

Article should contain the following sections:

The abstract page should be made as per the instructions given in the abstract page section and added to the first page of the article file. The subsequent pages should contain the following;

1. Introduction

State the purpose of the study or observation.

2. Materials and Methods:

The methods section should only include information that was available at the time the study was planned or the protocol written. Describe the selection of the specimens /participants (patients or laboratory animals, including controls) clearly, including eligibility and exclusion criteria and a description of the source population. Identify the methods, materials, equipment (give the manufacturer's name and address in parentheses), and procedures in sufficient detail to allow other workers to reproduce the results. Give references to established methods, including statistical methods.

3. Results

Statistical data are summarized in this section. Specify the statistical methods used to analyze them. Define statistical terms, abbreviations, and most symbols. Specify the computer software used. Use upper case (P= 0.048). For all P values include the exact value and not less than 0.05 or 0.001.

Present your results in a logical sequence in the text, tables, and illustrations, giving the main or most important findings first. When data are summarized in the Results section, give numeric results not only as derivatives (for example, percentages) but also as the absolute numbers from which the derivatives were calculated, and specify the statistical methods used to analyze them.

4. Discussion

Discussion Include a summary of key findings; Justify the results obtained. Strengths and limitations of the study; future research directions.

5. Conclusion

Must concisely state inference, significance, or consequences.
must not repeat Results or Discussion

6. References

References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text (not in alphabetic order).
Use square brackets: in-line, not superscript, for example [3].

References cited only in tables or figure legends should be numbered in accordance with the sequence established by the first identification in the text of the particular table or figure.
The titles of journals should be abbreviated according to the style used in Index Medicus. Use the complete name of the journal for non-indexed journals.
Avoid using abstracts as references.
Reference articles from Journals should be cited in Vancouver style – first, the author, followed by the title of the article and then the source, as cited below.

List the first six contributors followed by et al.
Reference books should be cited as follows -
Alla RK. Dental Materials Science, India: Jaypee Medical Publishers (P) Ltd., 2013.
Reference to a chapter in an edited book should be cited as follows:
Rama Krishna Alla. Dental Materials Science. in: Kishore G, Rama Krishna Alla, editors. Denture Base Materials, New Delhi, Jaypee Medical Publishers Pvt Ltd., 2013, P. 234-268.

Tables:

Tables should be self-explanatory and should not duplicate textual material.
Tables with more than 10 columns and 25 rows are not acceptable.
Number tables, in Arabic numerals, consecutively in the order of their first citation in the text and supply a brief title for each.
Place explanatory matter in footnotes, not in the heading.
Explain in footnotes all non-standard abbreviations that are used in each table.
Obtain permission for all fully borrowed, adapted, and modified tables and provide a credit line in the footnote.
For footnotes use the following symbols, in this sequence: *, †, ‡ , **, ††, ‡‡
Tables with their legends should be provided at the end of the text after the references.
The tables along with their number should be cited at the relevant place in the text.

Illustrations (Figures):

The images should be in JPEG format and in a separate folder.
The file size should be within 400 kb in size. Send sharp, glossy, un-mounted, colour photographic prints, with the height of 4 inches and a width of 6 inches at the time of submitting the revised manuscript.
Figures should be numbered consecutively according to the order in which they have been first cited in the text.
Labels, numbers, and symbols should be clear and of uniform size.
The lettering for figures should be large enough to be legible after reduction to fit the width of a printed column.
When graphs, scatter grams or histograms are submitted the numerical data on which they are based should also be supplied.
The photographs and figures should be trimmed to remove all the unwanted areas.
If photographs of people are used, either the subjects must not be identifiable or their pictures must be accompanied by written permission to use the photograph.
Legends for illustrations: Type out legends (maximum 40 words, excluding the credit line) for illustrations using double spacing, with Arabic numerals corresponding to the illustrations.
When symbols, arrows, numbers, or letters are used to identify parts of the illustrations, identify and explain each one in the legend.
The Journal reserves the right to crop, rotate, reduce, or enlarge the photographs to an acceptable size.
Protection of Patients' Rights to Privacy Authors should mask patients' eyes and remove patients' names from figures unless they obtain written consent from the patients and submit written consent with the manuscript.
When informed consent has been obtained, it should be indicated in the article and a copy of the consent should be attached with the covering letter.

For Case Reports:

Preparation of Case Reports Follow the standard format for the article (Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Case History, Discussion and References).

Units

Follow internationally accepted rules and conventions: use the international system of units (SI).

Math formulae

Please submit math equations as editable text and not as images.
Present simple formulae in line with normal text where possible and use the solidus (/) instead of a horizontal line for small fractional terms, e.g., X/Y. In principle, variables are to be presented in italics. Powers of e are often more conveniently denoted by exp.

For Review article

The manuscripts provide a critical review and summary of current knowledge from published literature or textbooks and highlight recent developments on the topics.

Ethics

When reporting studies on humans, indicate whether the procedures followed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation (institutional or regional). A statement on ethics committee permission and ethical practices must be included in all research articles under the "Materials and Methods" section.

Sending a revised manuscript While submitting a revised manuscript, authors are requested to include, the ‘referees’ remarks along with point-to-point clarification. In addition, mark the changes as underlined or coloured text in the article.

Article processing charge:

The journal charges the following fee on acceptance

Original Article, Case Report, Letter To Editor, and Review Article: US $ 100 (for overseas authors), INR 3000 (for authors from India). International Journal of Dental Materials will use this income to cover the cost of our operation and editorial work. This is the only income to support our journal. The APC pays for developing and maintaining our website, content marketing costs, preparation in various formats for online publication, inclusion in CrossRef and other databases, etc.
