Abstract

Rehabilitation of completely edentulous patients with compromised denture stability remains a clinical challenge, particularly in cases with residual ridge resorption and increased neuromuscular activity. The neutral zone concept enhances denture stability by positioning teeth and polished surfaces within the zone of muscular equilibrium. The piezo-graphic technique using a resilient soft liner is a simple and physiologically driven approach for managing challenging edentulous cases. This case series describes the use of a piezo-graphic technique with a resilient soft liner for neutral zone recording during complete denture fabrication. Two edentulous patients presenting with unstable dentures and functional difficulties were treated using the neutral zone approach. In the first case, the technique was applied to the mandibular arch alone to improve mandibular denture stability. In the second case, the procedure was extended to both arches due to increased muscular influence and unfavourable maxillary anatomy. Following conventional impression procedures and jaw relation records, the neutral zone was recorded using a resilient soft liner. A silicone putty index was used to preserve the recorded contours and guide tooth arrangement. Both cases demonstrated improved denture retention, stability, phonetics, and patient comfort.
